As of Generation 9, Cinderace is the Fire Type starter with the second highest Attack stat, barring Mega Evolutions. It just barely loses the crown to Blaziken, but it's still great. But the question is just how great? Well, our socker-playing hasenpfeffer sits as a strong backup option in the Fire matchup with higher average TDO than Blaziken at the cost of a very small DPS disadvantage. It can't reach the top-tiers without its future Shadow incarnation, but for the time being it's a great team filler!

  • Fire Spin is the way to go by way of Fast Moves, as Tackle is weaker, gets no STAB, and can't be Super Effective.
  • Pyro Ball is slightly stronger than Blast Burn*, but it takes a lot of energy, thus making it more unwieldy.
    • If you unlock a second Charged Move, then it's possible to aim for Pyro Ball and then switch to Blast Burn when Cinderace is low on HP for maximum performance, though the actual difference is pretty small.
  • Flame Charge, Flamethrower, and Focus Blast are all sub-par options.

  • Fire Spin is stronger than Tackle, even when resisted.
  • Flame Charge comes out frequently and is generally the best option on defense.
  • Flamethrower and Blast Burn* are great too, with the former being harder to dodge while the latter hits harder.
  • Pyro Ball takes too much energy to be useful on defense.

Fire Spin is a better option for PvP than Tackle. Pair it with Blast Burn for high power and Pyro Ball for something spammable.

Cinderace doesn't have anything to its name that makes it really stand out. It has a fair bit of raw power, but its stat product isn't great and it's basically forced to use nothing but Fire Type moves, or possibly Focus Blast, which can be hard to fit in.
