Thanks to its excellent overall stats, Metagross is a wonderful all-rounder choice in Max Battles. Whether you want to fire off a Max Attack or defend/support your team with Max Guard, Metagross can flexibly adapt to either role much better than most Pokemon in the early metagame. Metagross is also a contender to remain useful in the Dynamax meta, as well. Though the release of Crowned Zacian and Zamazenta have somewhat diminished Metagross's role, it's still a fantastic choice for those who cannot get their hands on the Legendary heroes.

  • Bullet Punch is obviously the main move of choice if you're going for Steel Type Dynamax offense. Meteor Mash doesn't REALLY matter due to the fact that Metagross won't really be using its Charged Move over Max Steelspike, but it's still an option.
  • Zen Headbutt is the way to go for Psychic damage. In a similar story to Steel, you'll be going for Max Mindstorm over Psychic.
  • If you want to go for some Bug Type damage, then stick with Fury Cutter to drop Max Flutterby.
  • Shadow Claw can also work for Max Phantasm.
  • For a more supportive build, Fury Cutter is the way to go for its ability to build up Max Move energy faster, thus letting it use Max Guard/Max Spirit more frequently. That said, any of the offensive moves work just fine depending on which is more effective.
