Best Movesets
One of the absolute tankiest Pokemon in the game, Blissey is a must-have for anyone trying to build a comprehensive Max Battle team. Thanks to its titanic HP pool, Blissey's Max Spirit provides unrivaled healing for its allies, taking most Pokemon from the brink of fainting to full health in two or three casts. Healing isn't all that Blissey does - its oustanding average bulk and one weakness makes it one of the best generalist tanks in the game. To give an idea of just how tanky Blissey is, a not-very-effective hit against Metagross or Blastoise do more HP-percent damage than the same neutral attack does to Blissey. To top this all off, Blissey even possesses a Fast Attack with a 0.5 second duration, Pound, enabling it to rapidly charge up the Max Meter.
Blissey does have a few paltry downsides. Its Normal typing doesn't resist anything bar a double resistance to Ghost, so some Pokemon can outperform Blissey with enough bulk and/or double resistance. Additionally is its high HP / middling Defense stat spread makes it not a particularly great user of Max Guard, as Max Guard provides a flat amount of HP for shielding. Blissey isn't particularly great at keeping its shields alive to constantly redirect single-target attacks from bosses, which can leave glassier teammates vulnerable to getting oneshot. Nevertheless, Blissey makes up for these minor inconveniences by being naturally very tanky and providing unbelievable healing.
Dynamax Roles
Dynamax Blissey can suffice on offense for low-rank Max Battles, but it's basically worthless when what you're facing takes actual damage to take down.
Outstanding average bulk means that Blissey happily invites agro in Max Battles and sees its already outstanding longevity expanded substantially by Max Guard. However, its performance in this regard has the caveat of its relatively low base Defense giving it less Max Guard utility. Honestly, the ideal defender setup is if someone else utilizes a strong wall like Zamazenta to tank hits while Blissey comes in to heal the team when Dynamaxing. Still, Blissey is a very solid tank that puts in great work.
Blissey is the single best healer in the game. This thing regenerates massive amounts of HP for its team thanks to its own monolithic HP stat, making it a staple in Max Battles. Honestly, Blissey would be a 6/5 if our scales worked that way, as it really does just eclipse everything else.
The big question here is Max Guard or Max Spirit, as these moves represent Dynamax Blissey's entire role in Max Battles. Well, Max Guard has the dual advantages of providing an HP buffer that can go beyond Blissey's Max HP and it also redirects attacks to itself, so it's an important part of Blissey's kit. However, Max Spirit not only heals its team, a high-level Blissey with a leveled up Max Spirit can actually recover more HP to itself than a similarly leveled Max Guard can provide a buffer for. For this reason, it's probably better to focus on Max Spirit first, with Max Guard close behind.
....as for Blissey's Max Move, it's nice to tickle the opponent with if you have nothing better to do or to make low-level Max Battle solos a bit easier. If you have the candy, then it's fine to raise it, but focus on Max Spirit and Max Guard first.
Defensive
- Pound is the key to Blissey's utility due to its high energy generation.
- Please don't use Blissey offensively.
