Black Kyurem Raid Guide

Black Kyurem Raid Guide

While White Kyurem focuses on pure Ice Type damage output, Black Kyurem focuses on a hybrid Ice/Dragon moveset. This gives it a slightly narrower use-case, but its higher general performance in many of these matchups makes it very much a powerhouse.

When it comes to taking this monster down, it's actually not that hard. With weaknesses to Dragon, Steel, and Fighting, most players should have a set of attackers that can easily score the DPS needed for a duo, so put a bit of focus on dodging and TDO counters unless everyone you're raiding with has sub-optimal counters.

The Supreme counters here are very much duo-worthy, and should have no issues taking Black Kyurem down.

The prime counter to Ice Types is obviously going to be here, and it actually has a better matchup in this raid than against White Kyurem. This is due to Kyurem Black's moveset sporting absolutely nothing that can do Super Effective damage to Zacian, giving it a stellar matchup that can't be underestimated.

The shield has a performance similar to the sword here. Despite having a worst matchup into Dragon Type movesets, its huge defensive powers and tremendously powerful Behemoth Bash makes it arguably just as good as Zacian, if not better due to its higher average performance in the face of just about any non-Dragon moveset. And don't take that the wrong way; Zamazenta still has an OBJECTIVELY GREAT matchup into Dragon Type moves thanks to its resistance, but it's kinda hard to compete with a triple-resist.

It doesn't like Ice or Dragon Type moves, but it still has outstanding average performance that can potentially melt this ice dragon entirely.

The 3rd member of the big-name Steel trio, Dusk Mane Necrozma's sub-typing gives it no real advantages here, and even makes it weak to Shadow Claw. That said, it's still great in its own right.

Mega Rayquaza really, really doesn't like taking on Ice Type moves... but only one in 5 Black Kyurem raids will have an Ice Type move, and that's the 1-bar Blizzard. So yeah; Rayquaza is very much worth using here, even if it is weak to Dragon Tail, Outrage, and Stone Edge.

With strong performance that mirrors Zamazenta and boosts to Steel and Fighting Types alike, Mega Lucario is the only Mega Evolution on this list that can genuinely compete with Mega Rayquaza.

While less powerful than Lucario and less useful in terms of what its presence on the field boosts, Mega Blaziken is still an objectively strong Pokemon that can put in solid work here.

The water pony is here to cause some major damage while resisting a surprising number of Black Kyurem's attacks! ...just be careful of Fusion Bolt.

Shadow Blaziken is a bit frail here, but it still hits hard and puts in genuinely solid work with a bit of dodging.

This seems like an oddball pick against an Ice Type Pokemon. But, like Mega Rayquaza mentioned earlier, its strong performance and the rarity of taking Ice Type movesets makes it potentially optimal, especially when taking on Fusion Bolt. Just be ready to dodge, as a fair number of moves that Kyurem will throw out are Super Effective against Shadow Garchomp.
