Analysis
Shadow Haxorus is a remarkably strong attacker, sporting outstanding DPS even within a meta as competitive as Dragon. It's no surprise though; this thing has a whopping 284 Attack, a great Dragon Type moveset, and a Shadow boost to compound it all.
However, speaking of stats... Shadow Haxorus is a glass cannon. This thing comes in hard and heavy, but it's not going to stay for very long. In this regard, access to Breaking Swipe and its 3-bar, short window nature is an absolute God-send to this thing. The key to using Shadow Haxorus is to front-load it and get ready to dodge!
Offense
- Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe* is honestly the only moveset worth considering for Haxorus.
- Counter doesn't have much synergy, Dragon Claw is weaker than Breaking Swipe*, and Nightslash, Earthquake, and Surf offer next to nothing.
Defense
- Dragon Tail has superior base power and STAB to make it objectively stronger, but Counter is still very strong on defense and has the advantage of off-typing that can hit Steel Types in particular substantially harder and also tickle Fairy Types just a bit more.
- Breaking Swipe* is the top option here, though Dragon Claw is fine as well.
- Night Slash doesn't have much counter-coverage, but it is decently powerful and has good neutral coverage, though it still leaves Shadow Haxorus at risk of being steamrolled by Fairy Types.
- Surf is slower and may never get off if it's facing down something strong that's packing Charm or some other strong Fast Moves, but it's still worth considering for its neutral coverage.
- Earthquake will probably never be fired off.
