Mega Salamence is one of the best Dragon Type Mega Evolutions long-term, hitting very hard while spreading around its Mega Boost for a surprisingly long time given its above-average TDO. However, being "one of the best" doesn't mean a lot when the "best" soars far, far above the competition. Still, Mega Salamence can make a solid budget Mega Evolution.

Mega Salamence is best using Dragon Tail. The debate between Outrage* and Draco Meteor boils down to the latter having higher average performance, while the latter has higher average damage that can drop below Outrage if Mega Salamence drops with a lot of energy.
Bite and Brutal Swing can work on Mega Salamence, though there are definitely better options.
Fire Fang and Fire Blast can work together, but are very sub-optimal compared to actual Fire Type Mega Evolutions.
- However, Fire Fang can also pair with Fly to deal high damage to Grass Types.
Outside of that matchup, Fire Fang, Fire Blast, and Hydro Pump have it rough as they cannot deal Super Effective damage alongside Dragon Tail under any circumstance.
Crunch is Brutal Swing, but worse.
