Mega Dragonite has a genuinely rough time. While its Shadow variant is great due to the fact that most people don't have a full team of Eternatus ready to go, the fact that Mega Dragonite competes with Mega Rayquaza, Mega Garchomp, and even Mega Salamence means its life is rough. Sadly, it's a worse option than all of the above by all meaningful metrics.

But is it objectively bad? Nope. If you already have a powered-up Dragonite, then adding Mega Dragonite to your team as a backup option when you don't have the energy for the big guns, and it's honestly very comparable to Mega Salamence and Mega Garchomp as a Dragon Type attacker. In essence, Mega Dragonite is a strong backup option that could be nice for doing some general, lower difficulty raids.

  • Dragon Tail slightly outperforms Dragon Breath in damage output, but Dragon Breath is easier to dodge with. If you make frequent use of 2-man Party Play, Dragon Breath is the superior Fast Attack choice as it charges up Party Power much more quickly.
  • Steel Wing has a different effectiveness profile but is inferior for neutral damage.
  • Outrage deals great damage and has 2 bars, with its drawback being long cooldown. Dragon Pulse is strictly worse.
  • Draco Meteor* has overall greater payoffs than Outrage, especially with Party Power. However, it is less consistent due to being a 1-bar move.
  • Dragon Claw is great for clearing gyms with 3 bars and low cooldown, but trails Outrage and Draco Meteor in damage output.
  • Hurricane gets STAB but lacks synergy with Mega Dragonite's fast moves and isn't a great move.
  • Hyper Beam, Thunder Punch, and Superpower have no purpose on Mega Dragonite.
  • Return* has absolutely nothing to offer Mega Dragonite.
