Dynamax Vespiquen is an extremely interesting Pokemon. On paper, it's a bit of a mediocre defensive option with access to a 0.5 second Fast Move and a few resistance advantages. However, those resistances are where things get interesting; Vespiquen covers the weaknesses of top-tier defenders like Dynamax Blissey and Zamazenta perfectly, thanks in particular its double-resistance to Fighting and triple resistance to Ground. This mean that a combo of either or both of the above plus Dynamax Vespiquen can wall just about everything.

All that said, Dynamax Vespiquen is still a bit weak in general. If the Max Raid Boss happens to roll a moveset that isn't resisted by Vespiquen, then it's not going to last extremely well, and it doesn't have much utility outside of raids where it's a dedicated counter. On top of that, all it's going to take is the release of a moveset update to Dynamax Lugia or a few others for Vespiquen to be completely outclassed in its only niche.

  • Bug Bite or Fury Cutter works for Max Flutterby, Poison Sting for Max Ooze, or Air Slash for Max Airstream if you really want to go the offensive route.... which Vespiquen doesn't do well.
  • Big Bite, Fury Cutter, or Poison Sting are all fine for defense.
