Analysis
Grapploct is a fun little octopus. It has a unique design, and a bit of potential for the future in the form of its Fighting Type signature move: Octolock. However, that potential is very, very slim due to the fact that it's fighting for the Fighting Type crown, which is very, very competitive. So yeah; it has no real utility right now, and an extremely slim shot at being good in the future. But hey; if Toucannon can do it, then who knows what the future holds?
Offense
- Rock Smash isn't good, and Superpower is mediocre, but it's Grapploct's best option.
- Waterfall and Surf can work, but a lack of STAB and a low Attack stat make it PAINFULLY mediocre.
- Brick Break and Ice Punch aren't useful for Grapploct.
Defense
- Rock Smash out-paces Waterfall, but the latter has utility based on what Charged Move it's paired with.
- Brick Break and Ice Punch are best for Charged Moves, though Surf and Superpower are both okay at least.
Waterfall out-paces Rock Smash, even without STAB. It pairs best with Superpower and its huge raw nuking power for a very reasonable energy cost. Finally, Ice Punch has strong coverage and a low energy cost, making it great for shield baiting and dealing with would-be counters like Flying Types.
Grapploct holds VERY STRONGLY to its lack of viability, refusing to show any sign of a genuine niche that can't be better filled by other Pokemon.
