Tapu Koko Raid Guide
Tapu Koko is a fairly strong raider, and... that's about it. It has an interesting typing, but no real niche to use it in due to its generally lackluster PvP performance. Regardless of its utility, it actually does have a fair bit of power as a raid boss. This is in part due to its high raw power, a few threatening Charged Moves, the high-damaging Volt Switch, and the fact that it only has two weaknesses; Ground and Poison, the latter of the two is generally not worth investing in for most players.
That said, Tapu Koko isn't extremely difficult to take down, as most of its top counters can take it on relatively easily.
Supreme Counters
The Supreme counters on this list are all duo-worthy, so focusing on TDO over DPS has its merits here.
Nothing in the game takes down Tapu Koko quite like Primal Groudon. This absolute monster tanks the Alolan guardian with ease, and hits extremely hard, making it the absolute best option for this raid bar none.
Outside of Megas/its own Primal forme, Shadow Groudon is a strong contender for "best non-Mega counter" for this raid. It has nearly all of the advantages of Primal Groudon, but... less so. Still, this is a top-tier pick!
That triple-resistance to Electric is very nice, but it also fears Dazzling Gleam. Still, Primal Groudon is better most of the time.
Shadow Excadrill is normally a bit light on TDO, but its Ground/Steel typing gives it resistances to everything that Tapu Koko has to throw at it.
While Eternatus is by far best known for its Dragon performance, it is actually a VERY capable Poison Type attacker... which doesn't matter 95% of the time, BUT HEY, THIS IS THE 5%!
Shadow Rhyperior is big, bulky, and hits hard as a Ground Type. What's not to love here!
While less attractive as a Mega, as a Shadow we see Garchomp really come into its own. If you're taking on an Electric moveset, then this thing will tank like a champ and keep up sustained, high damage with ease.
While Landorus - Therian has less of a resistance to Electric Type moves, it's genuinely powerful and has a great performance here.
Mega Gengar is definitely a lesser option here, but in cloudy weather it can hit pretty hard on the poison side.
Completing the triad of Groudons, we have the classic flavor. It hits hard and does the job!
Good Counters
The counters here are all duo-worthy to varying degrees, so feel free to pepper them in with any Supreme options that you may have!
