Latias along with her twin Latios are not the powerhouse legendaries of this generation, and of the two Latias gets the short end of the stick. Having the inverse of Latios's Atk and Def stat means she's bulky and underpowered. She's built to take down gyms as a Dragon or Psychic-type sweeper but still can't compete with more common Pokemon like Dragonite or Espeon.

  • Dragon Breath is preferred over Zen Headbutt for yielding higher cycle DPS and being much more dodge-friendly.
  • Charm doesn't have much use on Latias, especially without STAB.
  • Outrage is the preferred charge move. It partially makes up for Latias's lower Atk compared to Latios.
  • Psychic has synergy with Zen Headbutt and makes Latias a somewhat tanky Psychic attacker.
  • Mist Ball* is Latias' signature move, but it's ultimately inferior to Psychic.
  • Thunder is sub-par move. TM this move.

Dragon Breath grants supreme energy gains and still good damage, while Zen Headbutt is one of the worst moves in the game.

Aura Sphere is a Fighting-type clone of Hydro Cannon, making it one of the best moves in the game due to its cheap cost and high DPE. Mist Ball, Latias's signature move, is an incredibly powerful STAB Charged Attack that can occasionally leave an Attack debuff on the opposing Pokemon. Outrage can be ran instead of Mist Ball if more Dragon-type damage is desired, as Mist Ball and Aura Sphere can struggle to take down Psychic-type opponents, but it leaves Latias completely vulnerable to Fairy types instead. Psychic has very poor DPE and is not worth being slightly cheaper than Mist Ball. Thunder is an okay coverage move, but STAB Mist Ball has just about the same power down a type effectiveness.

Latias gained tremendous viability thanks to the September 2025 Move Rebalance, which not only reworked Dragon Breath but also gave Latias a much needed cheap costing move in Aura Sphere. Its extremely hard hitting moves combined with Dragon Breath's incredible energy generation makes Latias a difficult Pokemon to wall. Moreover, Latias possesses decent bulk and can make good use of its resistances.

Latias's main issue comes its common weaknesses. The majority of the top Great League meta mons carry something that can hit it super effectively, making it difficult to properly teambuild around Latias. There are also plenty of other amazing Dragon-type options in the Great League.
