Dynamax Moltres may not be quite on a par with some other Fire Types when it comes to Max Move damage, but it CAN drop high-powered Max Airstreams and Max Flares, giving it strong potential to perform double-duty while still hitting very hard in irs own right. This alone gives Moltres arguably more utility than many of the other Fire Types in the game, as its additional coverage adds a lot of role compression even if it is a little weaker. In theory it could tank against Grass Types thanks to its double resistance, but its slow Fast Moves don't work very well for building up the Max Gauge.

Attacker4/5

Strong damage output that covers Grass, Ice, Steel, Bug, and Fighting alike is definitely an attractive feature that gives Dynamax Moltres a strong niche. And even type overlap isn't really that much of an issue, as it gives Moltres more options. For example; while most Fire Types would sit out a Grass/Water Type Max Battle (whenever that becomes a thing), Moltres can just switch to Max Airstream.

Defender1/5

Moltres COULD be situational thanks to its typing, but its low energy generation makes it sub-par.

Healer1/5

That HP stat is doing Dynamax Moltres no real favors,

Focus almost exclusively on leveling up Moltres' Max Move. You can run Max Guard if you want to do some solos, but don't use it if you're in a real Max Battle as it redirects attacks towards Moltres, and it generally doesn't want to take hits.

Best

  • Go for Fire Spin for Max Flare.
  • Wing Attack is the way to go for Max Airstream.
