Team Builder

This team is in some ways a modern recreation, or attempted recreation, of a Gen 2-3 era BlizzQuake team. The idea is to lead Whimsicott with any one of Garchomp, Annihilape, or Ceruledge before handing off to Mega Froslass and Basculegion. This team wants to aggressively trade to set up a Last Respects sweep, although making the right choices on those trades is critical.

If all you do is pop Tailwind before getting run over, it still did its job. Encore looping lead off Fake Out or Protect users lets you seize momentum quickly

I cannot stress enough how fine it is to Earthquake a non-Protect guarded Whimsicott. If you see your opening, take it

I strongly advocate not leading with Froslass. I like to use Snow Warning to disrupt Rain and Sunlight teams, and I like using Aurora Veil to set the table for Basculegion to close it out. She’s fragile on this set up, but she hits like a truck and can disrupt the other team’s weather strategy so effectively if you hold her in reserve

Ceruledge is here for one reason only: to hard counter Stockpile Spam or Mega Staraptor reverse buff teams via Clear Smog. Literally no one expects it, and he’s surprisingly tanky with Leftovers + Bitter Blade. He’s fun to throw out against Mega Charizard Y and Torkoal because they have to mind powering him up via Flash Fire

If I don’t like the matchups for Garchomp on the team preview screen, the furious monkey lad is my default fallback plan. Broad coverage thanks to Rage Fist + Drain Punch, and provides needed coverage against Dark types. Also, it’s Annihilape — you don’t need any further justification for him than that.
