Mega Lucario is uniquely positioned in the meta game to reliably OHKO a significant portion of the field, although, there are a couple of noticeable weaknesses to this strategy which we aim to fix in this composition.
The first is speed, while Lucario outspeeds much of the meta he still gets outclassed by a couple of key figures such as Sneasler, Mega Frosslass, and Mega Staraptor. More on that later.
The speed issue ties in directly to our solution to the second weakness: Lucarios frailty. This 'mon will very rarely live a first hit, but never 2. Thats why the only viable solution to this is to outspeed the field and control the game state while Lucario sweeps using its immaculate type coverage and power while in its Mega form
Something else noteable here is that third attack move: Terrain Pulse. This, admittedly gimicky, coverage tool requires two pokemon slots dedicated to supplying terrain to make it work. Fortunately, we have some decent options. The reason its there is to OHKO Zard Y in Electric Terrain, to give us redundancy against Sneasler and other poison types (not to mention fake out defense) in Psychic Terrain, and to shore up our weakness to Garchomp and other dragon types (not to mention defending against status conditions) in Misty Terrain. Using this move, in this way, on this team also lets us enjoy the privileges of running protect when a typical coverage build might not be able to afford it.
Lucario is my favorite 'mon, he is the center of this team and the entire strategy revolves around my favorite part of pokemon: Destroying my enemies by fire and maneuver. I have stuck with him since day 1 of champions and Ill stick with him until I stop playing pokemon. He may not be the goat, but hes my goat, and I love him for it. Hope the team presents well
